  • Visited IBM Research Africa to meet data scientists in Kenya and discuss participation in global data science challenges such as the Malaria DREAM challenge

 

  • With support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and in collaboration with the DREAM consortium, the Ferdig Lab at University of Notre Dame, Sage Bionetworks, IBM Research and other organizations, we launched the Malaria DREAM challenge inviting data scientists from all over the world to develop computational models for predicting malaria drug resistance using genomics data

  • In collaboration with IBM Research Africa lab in Johannesburg, South Africa,organized the Deep Viral Code Hackathon challenging data scientists at the Deep Learning Indaba X meeting (Durban, South Africa) to develop machine learning models for predicting zoonotic potential of viral specieis using DNA/ RNA sequences. With support for the Eck Institute for Global Health provided prizes to the top 3 best performing teams
